This public space, which sees a high influx of people, especially on weekends and during the summer, is bordered by concrete walls of varying heights. Despite warning signs about risks, several accidents have occurred.
Just one year ago, a young man accidentally died after falling from one of the walls, and barely two months later, another person was injured in a fall in the same area. Following these incidents, in September 2025, the City Council commissioned a risk assessment from the company Oficina Tècnica TES, which included proposals for corrective measures to improve safety.
The planned interventions include replacing railings, installing handrails on stairs, restoring the pavement, and crucially, modifying the low wall to increase safety. The tender documents consider options such as adding backrests or deterrent elements to prevent people from sitting on the edge.
Furthermore, the installation of urban furniture is contemplated to prevent walkway users from sitting on the edge of the slab, thereby avoiding accidental falls. These details will be finalized with the drafting of the definitive project, which will have a six-month deadline from its award.
Interested companies have until June 26 to submit their bids. The estimated budget for the works is approximately 647,000 euros.
