The urban regeneration project for the area surrounding Cabanyal station and the western margin of Serrería street, at its junction with Blasco Ibáñez, has received authorization from the Valencia City Council to be submitted for the prestigious international Global Landscape Architecture awards.

This intervention, financed with EDUSI European funds, was the solution proposed by the previous municipal government to resolve the connection of Blasco Ibáñez avenue with the Cabanyal station area. The project aims to heal an urban 'wound' pending since the failed attempt to extend Blasco Ibáñez to the sea, which led to the degradation of this area of the maritime neighborhood.
The project was awarded in October 2021 for an amount of 206,216 euros to the temporary joint venture formed by GECIVAL and CERCLE Territorio, Paisaje y Arquitectura. The objective was to transform a space dominated by road infrastructure, previously articulated around a large roundabout, into a greener, pedestrian-oriented urban environment.
Works began in the summer of 2023 and lasted approximately one year, concluding in 2024. With an investment close to six million euros, the action has allowed for a significant reconfiguration of the area. One of the most significant elements of the intervention has been the integration of Cabanyal station into a landscaped area, overcoming its previous condition as an isolated infrastructure within a roundabout.
This transformation has also contributed to strengthening the connection between Blasco Ibáñez avenue and the Cabanyal neighborhood, a historical objective of urban planning in this sector of the city. Municipal technical services have positively valued the project's participation in the Global Landscape Architecture 2026 awards, considering that it meets the criteria of quality, innovation, and suitability for the call's objectives. These international awards annually recognize outstanding projects in landscape architecture and urbanism, acknowledging interventions that integrate sustainability, design, and public space improvement.
