Valencia's Plaza de la Virgen will once again become the stage for one of the most deeply rooted cultural events in honor of the city's patron saint, the Mare de Déu dels Desamparats, with the 56th edition of the Ronda a la Mare de Déu.

Fundación Bancaja will celebrate this upcoming Monday, May 11, 2026, a new edition of this traditional concert, which highlights popular music, zarzuela, choral singing, and traditional Valencian dances. The event, which serves as the closing of the festive acts dedicated to the patron saint, will begin at 8:30 PM and will have free access until full capacity is reached.
The event will feature the participation of the Valencia Municipal Symphonic Band, directed by Cristóbal Soler, along with the Orfeó Valencià, tenor Vicente Ombuena, and soprano Carmen Avivar. Also present on stage will be the Grup de Danses Alimara of the Societat Coral El Micalet, a reference in the conservation and dissemination of Valencian folklore.
The program will combine popular pieces, choral music, and fragments of zarzuela and classical repertoire. Among the works that can be heard are Pepita Greus, by Pascual Pérez Chovi; Ave Maria, by Charles Gounod; Bella enamorada, from El último romántico; the well-known Mazurka de las sombrillas from Luisa Fernanda, or the famous Polovtsian Dances by Borodin.
Traditional dances will also play a prominent role with interpretations such as the Malaguenya de Monòver, linked to the Vinalopó Mitjà, and the Pedregruera de Benissa, a popular seguidilla typical of the Marina Alta. The concert will conclude, as is tradition, with Valencia canta, the Himne de la Coronació, and the Himne de la Comunitat Valenciana.
The Ronda a la Mare de Déu was born on May 13, 1968, promoted by the then Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Valencia on the occasion of the entity's 90th anniversary. Since then, it has remained one of the most emblematic cultural events of the patron saint festivities, held in front of the Basílica de la Mare de Déu and the traditional floral tapestry installed in the Plaza de la Virgen.
