Valencia is celebrating International Music Day on June 21st with an unusual proposal: live concerts inside EMT buses, turning public transport into mobile stages.

Under the name “Línia Certamen Internacional” (International Band Contest Line), the city will transform several EMT vehicles into small mobile stages. Citizens can enjoy musical performances while traveling, an initiative promoted by València Music City in conjunction with the EMT and in collaboration with the Coordinadora de Societats Musicals de València (COSOMUVAL).
The event will take place between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM on lines 6, 10, and 70, featuring three groups linked to the Valencian band tradition: Unió Musical Santa Cecilia de Castellar-Oliveral, Societat Musical de Benifaraig, and Unió Musical L’Horta de Sant Marcel·lí. The objective is to take music out of its usual venues and bring it closer to daily life, integrating it into urban movement and public transport.
This initiative is part of València Music City's strategy to strengthen the presence of music in all areas of the city, connecting tradition, culture, and urban life. It also forms part of the preliminary programming for the Certamen Internacional de Bandes de Música Ciutat de València (International Band Contest of Music City of Valencia), which will celebrate its 140th anniversary in 2026.
The collaboration between EMT València and València Music City turns public transport into a cultural diffusion tool, where transport ceases to be merely a means and becomes a living space that surprises users. This idea reinforces the commitment to sustainable mobility linked to local culture.
The bus action is part of an intense weekend for music in Valencia, with programming extending from June 19th to 21st across various venues. Friday the 19th features performances like Luna Spoken Blues and Marta Verde + Hari Sima. On Saturday the 20th, the inaugural concert of Serenates 2026 and the Música als Museus (Music in Museums) cycle. On Sunday the 21st, in addition to the bus concerts, there will be Ram Session events and family activities from Palau Kids.
The Valencia City Council has also extended the celebration to the educational sphere with the program “La banda en tu cole” (The band in your school), which brings educational concerts by musical societies to municipal schools. This initiative, developed with COSOMUVAL, will continue next academic year, reinforcing the role of musical societies in the city's educational and cultural fabric.
