The Mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, is appearing today before the Spanish Congress in the investigation committee on the storm. This will be the first time the mayor gives explanations regarding her management during the emergency and post-emergency.
In the city of Valencia, seventeen people died on October 29, 2024. These residents lived in the districts of La Torre, Castellar-l’Oliveral, and El Forn d’Alcedo.
As these are peripheral neighborhoods of the city, Catalá has always avoided discussing her management on the day of the emergency. Neighborhood associations from these districts have repeatedly accused her of a lack of foresight and of abandoning them.
