The Provincial Council of Valencia and the Generalitat Valenciana have strengthened their collaboration with an agreement that will mobilize 51 million euros to improve the integral water cycle in 77 wastewater treatment plants across Valencian municipalities.
This agreement, signed with EPSAR, foresees significant actions to improve sanitation in Valencian towns and reduce the economic burden on local councils. The president of the Provincial Council, Vicent Mompó, has described the pact as an
“
"historic agreement, but also a way of working based on institutional collaboration, in our case defending the interests of Valencian towns when their needs exceed municipal capacity."
The plan includes the reconstruction of 62 treatment plants and the construction of 15 new ones, in addition to generating savings for municipalities in the payment of fees related to waste treatment. Mompó also highlighted the rapid response after the damage caused by the DANA (cold drop), as well as the work of assessing needs in various municipalities.
Vice President Natàlia Enguix emphasized that, after the flood, rapid action was taken to repair 72 affected treatment plants, which are now fully restored. She stressed the importance of this agreement in facilitating the execution of new actions. Councillor Vicente Martínez Mus stated that this investment
“
"structures the territory and leaves no municipality behind, with special attention to the smallest ones. It is not just a financing framework, but a plan that will directly improve the hydraulic infrastructures of our municipalities."
The agreement includes the construction of 15 new wastewater treatment plants, with an estimated investment of 36 million euros, in municipalities such as Andilla, Requena, Alzira, or Montserrat, among others. Additionally, approximately 15 million euros will be allocated to the modernization of 62 existing facilities, with improvements in machinery, disinfection systems, sludge management, and energy efficiency.
The actions will be distributed across various Valencian regions, including Ribera Alta, Safor, Vall d'Albaida, Serranía, and Camp de Túria, among others. The Provincial Council emphasizes that this agreement will address the needs raised by numerous municipalities.
