One month after suffering a serious injury in Alcalá de Henares, Roger Colomina returns to the Spanish capital to consult with the renowned Galician specialist, Dr. Manuel Leyes. The objective is to set the date for the surgical intervention to repair the anterior cruciate ligament rupture he sustained during the match against Atlético de Madrid's reserve team.
The initial decision by the traumatologist was to wait for a sprain in the external lateral ligament to heal, an additional injury caused by continuing to play despite the main rupture. This delay, according to Dr. Leyes, will ensure greater knee stability and will not affect the total recovery period, estimated at nine months from the date of the injury.
Patience and thoroughness in rehabilitation are key in these types of pathologies that also generate significant emotional wear and tear on the player.
The player from Sabadell follows in the footsteps of his friend Oriol Soldevila, who was also operated on by the same specialist and is currently undergoing readaptation. If Dr. Leyes deems it appropriate, the surgery could take place this week. Recovery is expected to have him back in competition after the Christmas break.
On the other hand, teammate Alejandro Sotillos, who suffered a similar injury on the same day as Colomina, has opted for conservative treatment for his medial collateral ligament and internal meniscus rupture. Although most specialists recommend surgery, Sotillos is relying on non-invasive therapies, and the club does not expect him to play again this season, although his coach, Beto Company, left a small door open for this possibility in case of a 'play-off'.
Hércules will resume training this Wednesday with eight absences to prepare for Sunday's match against Atlético Sanluqueño in Alicante. The latest additions to the infirmary are Javier Rentero and Alberto Retuerta. Other injured players include Oriol Soldevila, Richie Dapaah, Roger Colomina, Alejandro Sotillos, Samu Vázquez, and Jorge Galvañ, of whom only the latter two might reappear before the end of the regular season.
