In the meeting held this Thursday, both the city council and the Ministry of Infrastructure requested the Secretary of State for Transport to convene an extraordinary board of directors and a general shareholders' meeting. These bodies would address the appointment of the entity's new general manager and the approval of accounts, conditions they deem essential to unblock Bernabé's designation as a member.
The City Council indicated that both the mayor of the Valencian capital, María José Catalá, and the Minister of Infrastructure, Vicente Martínez Mus, reproached the Secretary of State for leaving "the most important matters for Sociedad Parque Central" off the agenda for this Thursday's meeting. The agenda only included the delegate's appointment as an Adif member in the company.
This is not the first time Catalá and Mus have vetoed Bernabé's appointment. In fact, at the last board meeting in February, they already blocked this point, arguing that they had not been previously informed or provided with the corresponding documentation. This year, they have also not agreed to approve this point, even though it was included on the agenda in advance.
From the City Council, they consider that "there will be no problem in giving the green light to the approval of the new counselor proposed by Adif, as long as the appointment of the future manager of Sociedad Parque Central is agreed upon." They have linked the delegate's approval to the appointment of the manager, a position for which Catalá wants architect Julio Gómez-Perretta. However, the Government proposes Vicente Palomo to lead the mixed company.
Sources from the Ministry of Transport consider it "totally unprecedented" that Valencian administrations "block" the election of a counselor proposed by an Administration. "It has never happened before," state these sources, who reproach the PP for a "political veto and an operation to use institutions for partisan purposes."
