The President of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, is ending his 'quarantine' in the Valencian Community with an event scheduled for Saturday, which will culminate a veritable landing of national party leaders in Valencian territory. This presence ends 14 months of absence and activates the agenda of the PPCV, led by Juanfran Pérez Llorca.
Before Feijóo's visit, the national spokesperson for the PP, Borja Sémper, accompanied the mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, at a conference. For this Thursday, the presence of Miguel Tellado, the party's general secretary, and Jaime de los Santos, national deputy secretary, is expected at a PP of Valencia event that will also include Pérez Llorca and the provincial president, Vicent Mompó.
This strategic move by Génova, with four key figures in three days, marks the early start of the campaign for the upcoming general elections, considering Valencia a crucial territory. Junts's request for an early election has increased enthusiasm within the PP.
Beyond the national strategy, the visit has an internal Valencian dimension. Feijóo is scheduled to participate in a massive event organized by the provincial leadership of the PP of Valencia, led by Vicent Mompó, which already has 1,200 confirmed attendees. This event, which was previously postponed, is anticipated as a display of mobilization.
Feijóo's visit comes at a time of uncertainty regarding the PPCV's candidacy for the next regional elections and the party's future leadership. It has not yet been officially confirmed whether Pérez Llorca will be the candidate, nor has the regional congress, pending since last summer, been held.
Mayor María José Catalá has suggested putting the congress on 'hold' until after the elections, advocating for Pérez Llorca's candidacy from his interim position. This statement marks a shift from previous calls for a congress to elect leaders and candidates.
Feijóo's presence is interpreted as a gesture of support for Pérez Llorca, although some warn that his lack of a clear message could question his leadership. At the same time, it represents a recognition of Vicent Mompó, the provincial leader, who will act as host to the party's leader.
