The signature collection intensified this weekend, with a point set up in the Plaça dels Pinazo in València. This action allowed the municipalist movement to visualize support for a proposal that seeks to reduce the electoral barrier from 5% to 3%.
In addition to lowering the threshold, the initiative proposes changing the vote counting system to be provincial rather than autonomous. According to the proponents, this change would prevent some citizen representation from being excluded from Les Corts. The groups indicate that the current system sets the threshold at around 125,000 votes, while the reform would lower it to 75,000, facilitating the entry of more political options.
“"This proposal is a measure to correct a democratic anomaly that hinders the representation of smaller forces. The objective is to achieve a more plural and representative chamber of the Valencian reality."
One mayor has urged traditional parties to be consistent and support a reform deemed "historic," while another mayor emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure citizens can have a "real voice and vote" in electing their representatives.
The campaign has received support from various figures in Valencian politics and has been deployed in different municipalities across the Comunitat Valenciana. The municipalist movement has announced that in the coming weeks, the final count of signatures will be made before their formal submission to the Junta Electoral, a preliminary step to their validation and subsequent processing in Les Corts.
