“"They told me the character is Carlos Mazón and I said 'look, Arturo, in the end he's a fictional character, but this guy generates very real feelings and I'm not sure I want people calling me names in the street... It's too recent, I'm Valencian, there's too much pain, better to stay a little bit away from that'."

Valencian actor Enrique Arce has revealed he rejected an offer to portray former Generalitat president Carlos Mazón in a film about the tragic October 2024 DANA, citing the character as "too controversial" and the pain still too raw.
The news was disclosed by the artist during his appearance on the H Project videopodcast, where he discussed his career, including his international success as Arturo in the series La Casa de Papel. During the conversation, Arce mentioned the offer for the upcoming cinematic production, which will focus on the events of the DANA.
Despite acknowledging that the film is "necessary," Arce stated he would not participate in the project, even going so far as to request an "exorbitant" fee to ensure rejection. He emphasized that, while he could portray the character "perfectly" as an actor, his decision remains firm due to the sensitivity of the subject and his personal connection as a Valencian to the events.
It is worth noting that last October, producer Jaume Roures had already announced plans for a fictional film about Carlos Mazón's management of the DANA, with a screenplay by Jordi Galceran. Roures stated in remarks to Rac1 that the film would aim to "highlight that people in public office should behave differently".
