After considerable anticipation, the routes for the papamobile in Madrid have finally been announced. The Pontiff will travel in the open-top vehicle through various parts of the city, allowing thousands of faithful to see him up close. The itineraries will focus particularly on the Castellana axis, Cibeles, La Latina, Sol, la Almudena, and the area around the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The first route will take place on Saturday, June 6th, starting at 8:30 PM. Leo XIV will travel along the Castellana promenade, from Vitruvio street to Plaza de Lima, where he will preside over a prayer vigil with young people. This will be the first major opportunity for Madrileños to greet the Pope from the streets.
On Sunday, June 7th, the Pontiff will again use the papamobile before the large mass in Plaza de Cibeles. The journey, scheduled for around 9:30 AM, will pass through Serrano street, Goya, Plaza de Colón, and the area of the Puerta de Alcalá, before arriving at the Palacio de Cibeles.
The busiest day will be Monday, June 8th. At 6:00 PM, Leo XIV will depart from the Pirámides roundabout towards the cathedral of la Almudena, passing through Puerta de Toledo, Gran Vía de San Francisco, and Bailén street. There, he will pay homage to the Virgen de la Almudena.
Subsequently, starting at 7:00 PM, the Pope will undertake the longest route. From Bailén, he will proceed along Mayor street to Puerta del Sol, continue through Carrera de San Jerónimo, Plaza de las Cortes, Felipe IV, Alfonso XII, Plaza de la Independencia, and Alcalá, then proceed via Príncipe de Vergara and Concha Espina to the vicinity of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, where he will meet with the diocesan community.
The itineraries will be accompanied by a significant security operation and staggered traffic closures. Authorities recommend using public transport and consulting official mobility information.
