The head of the Consell insisted that the Valencian government stands with the students and their families, especially at such a crucial time as preparation for university entrance exams. This statement was made in a message published on his official X social media account.
Pérez Llorca's stance comes after the minimum services set by the Ministry of Education for the strike generated controversy. The Generalitat has established a staff to guarantee the functioning of educational centers during the strike, especially in second-year baccalaureate, where essential tasks related to final evaluation and PAU preparation will be maintained.
“"This government is on their side. Always."
The convening unions appealed the minimum services resolution before the Superior Court of Justice, considering them abusive and a source of uncertainty. However, the high court today dismissed the urgent precautionary measures requested by the union organizations.
The indefinite strike, which began this morning in non-university public educational centers, has been called by several teachers' unions and is supported by student families and the Student Union. While the unions have estimated the turnout for the first day at 90%, the Ministry of Education indicated that, as of 1:00 PM, the average turnout in the Valencian Community was 47.01%.
The day of protests began with informational pickets and concentrations at the centers, and at noon, massive demonstrations were held in Castellón, Valencia, Elche, and Alicante. Teachers demand that the Ministry of Education engage in negotiation with real and effective measures that address their demands, including the recovery of purchasing power, reduction of student-teacher ratios, infrastructure improvements, reinforcement of staff, progress towards truly inclusive education, reduction of bureaucracy, and promotion of Valencian in classrooms.
