In his homily, delivered in Plaza de la Virgen in the Valencian capital on the occasion of the feast of the Virgin of the Forsaken, Benavent expressed his concern about the persistence of conflicts. He lamented that every day "we see with concern that what we all want seems to be moving further and further away" and pointed out "how many signs of death, how many wars, how little human life and dignity are respected".
The archbishop criticized "indifference to the suffering of peoples" and "confrontations to defend interests that cannot be justified." He also denounced existing "divisions" and censured those who, "in order to achieve their objectives, forget moral principles," which he considers "a source of injustice and wars."
“"The path is to work for peace with the truth of the Gospel, even if that often does not please or seems unrealistic. Any other path only causes more suffering. Condemning war is not justifying any injustice, but proclaiming that only peace is the way to reach heaven and the new earth that we all long for."
Furthermore, Benavent made a call for hope under the protection of the Virgin of the Forsaken, patroness of Valencia, and her gaze "full of tenderness." He emphasized that "devotion to the Mother of God has inspired charity, and a charity that is not sincere or that is feigned or simulated is not true."
He stated that "the gospel of love extends to those who need our hospitality" and that the "priority of those who wish their charity not to be feigned is the vulnerability of those who need help." He insisted that charity "is not determined by external circumstances, which does not distinguish between good and bad, between near and far, between those from here and those from outside, between those who think one way and those who think another."
The archbishop concluded that, if charity "is not lived this way, when we do not live it with joy and with the affection of one who loves others more than oneself, it is not lived Christianly." He asked that "the authenticity of our devotion to the Mother of God be manifested in unfeigned charity."
