The indefinite strike in Valencian public education has begun with a massive mobilization, bringing together tens of thousands of teachers in major cities to demand quality public schooling.
From early morning, various columns of teachers from schools and institutes began protest marches that converged into massive mobilizations. These took place in the four major cities of the Valencian Community: Valencia, Alicante, Elche, and Castellón de la Plana.
According to estimates from the Government Delegation, approximately 40,000 people participated in these demonstrations. The breakdown was 20,000 attendees in Valencia, 12,000 in Alicante, 5,100 in Castellón de la Plana, and 2,800 in Elche. The teachers, many dressed in green, protested for a "quality public school" and criticized the "lack of real will" to negotiate on the part of the Ministry of Education.
Enough is enough: less bureaucracy, fewer ratios, more salary, more staff, and more Valencian.
The strike, called by four trade union organizations (STEPV, CCOO, UGT, and CSIF) and supported by ANPE, also has the backing of civil society groups such as the Plataforma per l'Ensenyament, Fampa-València, and the Confederación Gonzalo Anaya, as well as the Student Union. While the Ministry of Education reported a 47.01% turnout at 13:00, unions claimed that between 85% and 95% of teachers supported the stoppage.
“"The first day of the strike is historic and unprecedented. We call on the Ministry of Education to sit down and negotiate with real and effective proposals that provide a satisfactory response to the demands of the teaching staff."
In Valencia, the demonstration was particularly massive, with over 20,000 people. Columns formed from early morning and converged in the central Plaza de San Agustín, concluding in the Plaza de la Virgen, in front of the Palau de la Generalitat. Protesters chanted slogans such as "For your children, we are here" and "We're going backwards with the Ministry," expressing their discomfort and indignation.
