The Valencian Community begins its University Entrance Exams (PAU) this Tuesday with 25,666 students enrolled in the mandatory phase. The start of the exams is conditioned by the indefinite strike of non-university public education teachers, which has necessitated the guarantee of 100% minimum services for both the administration and grading of the tests.
The organization has activated 55 tribunals distributed across the five public universities in Valencia. This measure aims to bring examination points closer to students and avoid extensive travel between regions. The Ministry of Education has explained that minimum services have been reinforced after detecting withdrawals from teachers assigned to grading.
Meanwhile, unions and the administration maintain open dialogue with a new meeting scheduled for this Sunday, the ninth since the conflict began on May 11. In a recent union consultation, 91% of participating teachers rejected the Generalitat's latest proposal, and 80% favored continuing the indefinite strike, according to data released by the STEPV, CCOO PV, and UGT-PV unions.
The University of Valencia hosts 16 tribunals, followed by the Polytechnic University of Valencia with 12. The University of Alicante has 10, the Miguel Hernández University of Elche has 11, and the Jaume I University of Castellón has 6. This territorial distribution follows a decentralized model designed to facilitate access to exams and reduce unnecessary travel to provincial capitals.
This year, 1,883 more students are participating compared to the previous year. Of the total, 15,156 are women and 10,510 are men. In the previous edition, 95.68% of students passed the mandatory phase, with an average access grade of 7.228 out of 10.
The exams are conducted over three consecutive days. Tuesday, June 2, begins with Spanish Language and Literature II and Philosophy. Wednesday, June 3, will feature foreign languages and History of Spain, while the afternoon will include subjects like Physics, Chemistry, or Geography. Thursday, June 4, concludes the ordinary call with Valencian, Mathematics II, or Latin.
Grades will be published on June 12 at 1:00 PM, at which point students can check their results and begin university pre-registration. Enrollment will be open from June 15 to 18. The extraordinary call will take place on June 30 and July 1 and 2.
