The Canet d'en Berenguer City Council has proceeded to fill and asphalt the potholes in the section of the river ford within its demarcation, after confirming that maintenance responsibility was municipal.

This action was carried out last Friday, April 10, 2026, once the council became aware of its responsibility for the maintenance of this crossing connecting Port de Sagunt and Canet d'en Berenguer. The Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) had previously informed this newspaper that the responsibility was municipal.
The mayor, Pere Antoni, had already expressed his intention to act once the responsibility was confirmed. Canet's maintenance brigade executed the works immediately after receiving confirmation from the CHJ regarding the shared responsibility with the Sagunt City Council for safety and maintenance.

Antoni explained that the delay in action was due to the belief that maintenance corresponded to the ministry. However, the CHJ clarified that, according to file 2016AP0385 and resolutions from January 2020, the use of the ford had been provisionally authorized while the city councils built a new connecting bridge between the two municipalities.
The CHJ stressed that both local administrations have the duty to guarantee the safety of this route. The authorizations specify that it is up to the ford's owner to implement the necessary measures to ensure user safety, including access control in risky situations and adequate maintenance for traffic and road safety.
The poor condition of this connecting road, with numerous potholes and bumps, had been the subject of previous publications, making it a critical and high-risk point for users. This situation is a consequence of wear and tear and high daily traffic, exacerbated by the lack of a coastal alternative, such as the bridge project that has not yet progressed.
