The former President of the Generalitat, Francisco Camps, has formally launched his campaign to lead the Valencian People's Party, promising electoral victory in exchange for party control.

The former President of the Generalitat, Francisco Camps, has formally launched the campaign to regain control of the Valencian People's Party with a direct message to the party leadership: “Give me the party and I will give you the government.” Camps made this proclamation at an event at the Veles e Vents in Valencia, in front of a hundred supporters, aiming to signify his return to the political forefront and his intention to contest the party's internal leadership before the 2027 elections.
“Today begins the campaign to win the party and win the elections,” he said, calling for the future congress to become “real primaries” open to all party members. “If you give me the party democratically, I will give you the government democratically with an absolute majority,” he insisted.
Camps presented his internal candidacy as a reunification effort after years of internal tensions and leadership changes following his political downfall due to corruption cases linked to the Gürtel scandal. “My project includes everyone, from the current president to the last councilor in the smallest municipality,” he assured. The former president also sought to vindicate his time leading the Generalitat, particularly in education. He criticized the current PP leadership for not acknowledging the party's previous governments.
In a speech filled with references to Valencia's political past, Camps stated he was returning “without nostalgia or resentment,” although he admitted remembering “some things” from the years he was sidelined from the party. “They are not a burden, they are fuel to move forward,” he said. The event also served to send a direct message to the president of the Spanish PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo. Camps told him: “The walkway to an absolute majority is here,” in an attempt to present himself as the only leader capable of restoring the Valencian PP's electoral hegemony.

"Democratic hygiene once and for all"

During the event, some of his historical allies criticized the current PP leadership. The former mayor of Alicante, Sonia Castedo, demanded “democratic hygiene once and for all” and accused the party's top brass of underestimating leaders who “made the PP great.” The former vice-president of the Provincial Council of Castellón, Vicent Aparici, also defined the event as a reaffirmation of Camps' candidacy.
