Valencia Basket player, Awa Fam, landed at Manises airport on Wednesday, April 15, receiving support from her loved ones after making history in the WNBA draft, where she was selected as the #3 pick by Seattle Storm.

Awa Fam expressed her immense joy for the draft night, calling it «incredible» and a moment she will remember for her entire life. The Valencian, despite the fatigue from her trip from New York, was radiant with happiness and pride for her dream come true. Her mother, with a bouquet of flowers, and a group of family and friends were waiting for her at the airport.

"I am very happy, it was a night I will never forget, that I will remember my whole life, it was special to see all my family, to see the people from Spain cheering, to see all the congratulations... it's something I never imagined, it was incredible."

The young player made history in Spanish basketball by achieving the highest position for a Spanish player in the American league's draft. She described the moment of her selection as «surprising» and admitted that she still can't quite believe it: «I think I won't believe it until I'm there, until I'm in Seattle I won't realize that I've fulfilled my dream, that I'm in the WNBA».
Among the many congratulations received, that of Pau Gasol was one of the most emotional for her, as he was also selected as the #3 pick in the NBA draft 25 years ago. Awa Fam highlighted her pride in following in his footsteps.
The player from Santa Pola, who joined Valencia Basket at just 12 years old, is happy to serve as a role model for the girls at Alqueria del Basket. She encourages them to be patient, brave, and to fight for their dreams, recalling that she herself once thought her WNBA dream would never come true.
Now, Awa Fam wants to rest to face the final stretch of the season with Valencia Basket, with the clear goal of winning the League as the best farewell. She also mentioned that she has already been able to exchange messages with some of her future teammates and with the coach of the Seattle Storm, who expect her to continue improving and demonstrating her talent.
Finally, she thanked the support of her Valencia Basket teammates and the club, as well as Manolo Real and Pepa, whom she considers her adoptive parents since she arrived in Valencia. This Sunday, at the Roig Arena, she will have the opportunity to reunite with the 'taronja' fans in the Liga F Endesa match against Durán Maquinaria Ensino.
