The Civil Guard and the Tax Agency have arrested a 29-year-old man at Valencia Airport for carrying four kilograms of cocaine hidden in a false bottom of his suitcase.

Agents, monitoring flights with international connections, randomly identified a Mexican national passenger, arriving from Mexico with a layover at Barajas Airport (Madrid). He was carrying a checked suitcase in his name, which became subject to inspection.
After being questioned about the reason for his trip and if he had anything to declare, the man stated he was traveling for tourism and had nothing to declare. Following standard customs procedure, his luggage was scanned by an X-ray machine, which revealed organic matter plates at the bottom of the suitcase.
In the opinion of the intervening agents, these plates could be consistent with the presence of narcotic substances. Once the suitcase was opened in the passenger's presence, it was discovered that, in addition to clothes and personal effects, a false bottom had been created in the luggage. Here, brick-shaped and plastic-wrapped packages containing a pressed white powder were concealed.
Upon applying the narcotics reagent, the result was positive for cocaine. The substance weighed a total of 4,000 grams. The man has been arrested for an alleged crime against public health (drug trafficking), and the judge has ordered his imprisonment.
In a similar operation, the Civil Guard also arrested a 27-year-old man at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. This individual was carrying over 3.5 kilos of cocaine hidden in his suitcase. The operation began during a control at the customs area, where agents from the Fiscal and Border Analysis and Investigation Unit (UDAIF) detected anomalies in a suitcase traveling as unaccompanied luggage.
After contacting the owner of the luggage, appropriate checks were carried out, and inconsistencies were detected in his statements. In the owner's presence, the suitcase was opened, and a briefcase with a false bottom and other hidden compartments was found, containing 3,580 grams of cocaine. Investigations determined that both the person and the luggage had followed an international itinerary originating in South America with stopovers in different countries before arriving in Spain. The detainee has been brought before the judicial authorities, and his provisional imprisonment has been ordered.
