Workers at a construction site on Joan Verdeguer street in Valencia located a more than 50-kilo Civil War bomb, which was safely detonated at the Port of Valencia last Friday.

The discovery occurred on Friday morning when workers at a plot on Joan Verdeguer street in Valencia unearthed an explosive device from the Civil War. The bomb, weighing over 50 kilos, still contained explosive material, immediately triggering safety protocols.
Following the discovery, several units of the National Police and the specialized TEDAX group were dispatched to the scene. Given the dangerous nature of the device and the need to find a secure location for its detonation, authorization was requested from the Port Authority of Valencia (APV).
The bomb was transported to the grounds where construction is underway for the future north container terminal, part of the Port of Valencia's expansion. This location was deemed suitable due to its proximity to the discovery site and its compliance with the safety conditions required for a controlled detonation.
Finally, around 4 PM on the same Friday, the device was safely detonated. The resulting explosion and smoke surprised residents in nearby areas, including the hamlet of Pinedo. Sources from the Port Authority highlighted the collaboration between the different parties as a "success story" in ensuring public safety.
