The entity emphasized that the Villena plant, with an annual capacity of 130,000 tons, currently only processes approximately 63,000 tons from the associated municipalities. This situation leads to inefficient resource use, with higher energy consumption and an increased cost per treated ton.
“"It is absurd to receive personal accusations about an agreement that has been withdrawn from the agenda and has not even been voted on yet."
The Consorci CREA explained that the agreement proposed with Vega Baja, which has not yet been voted on, is based on technical criteria and aims to reduce costs for residents. According to the entity, the agreement would allow the cost of waste treatment to decrease from 161.62 euros per ton to 134.89 euros, representing an approximate saving of 26.73 euros per ton for residents of the 14 municipalities involved.
In response to criticisms about a lack of transparency, the consortium's leadership stated that the organization is the only waste consortium in Alicante that holds informative meetings prior to governing board meetings. It also called for solidarity among consortiums, recalling that other territories have collaborated with Villena in the past, especially during the construction of its treatment plant.
