The Generalitat Valenciana has visited the works of the Salse III reservoir in Beneixama, an investment of nearly 6 million euros to strengthen irrigation in Alto Vinalopó and guarantee water supply.

The regional minister of Agriculture, Water, Livestock and Fisheries has defended the Generalitat's commitment to water infrastructure for the Valencian countryside. During the visit to the works of the Salse III water storage and regulation reservoir for irrigation, in Beneixama, he highlighted the investment of nearly 6 million euros in this project.
This new infrastructure will reinforce storage capacity and guarantee water supply for irrigation in the Alto Vinalopó region. The reservoir will have a useful capacity of 524,000 cubic meters and will serve 1,200 hectares of crops, mainly olive groves, almond trees, and vineyards.
The new reservoir will allow for greater reserves during periods of high demand, reduce dependence on pumping during the summer, and lower energy consumption. This will have a direct effect on production costs and on the sustainability of the irrigation system, addressing a real need of the agricultural sector.

"This action responds to a real need of the agricultural sector and contrasts its execution with the situation of other pending infrastructures in the area."

A few kilometers from Beneixama, the minister once again focused on the San Diego reservoir, in Villena, a state infrastructure linked to the Júcar-Vinalopó transfer that he considers essential for the region's water system. He regretted that 40 million euros were invested in this facility, but it remains inoperative. Furthermore, he criticized the Ministry for Ecological Transition for setting the start of waterproofing works for 2028, despite irrigators having demanded its rehabilitation since 2018.
This action is part of the Generalitat's investment effort in the province of Alicante, where modernization of irrigation and hydraulic infrastructure projects exceed 40.9 million euros in the last five years. Autonomous investment in water infrastructure and irrigation modernization has increased by 60% in this legislature, reaching 99 million euros, with the aim of consolidating a more efficient, competitive, and sustainable model in the Comunitat Valenciana.
