This weekend, the province of Castellón witnessed the vitality of its musical tradition. The Band Gatherings, organized by the Diputación de Castellón, brought together a total of 29 musical societies and over 1,500 musicians in the regions of Alto Palancia and Plana Baixa.
The XXVII Alto Palancia Band Gathering took place on Saturday in Sot de Ferrer, bringing together groups and residents from the region. Meanwhile, the XXXI Plana Baixa Band Gathering convened on Sunday in Eslida with 17 musical societies. Both events have served to strengthen ties between municipalities and consolidate the role of bands as key cultural references in the province.
“"Each band has put hours and hours of effort, dedication, and passion on stage."
A representative from the Provincial Council highlighted the effort behind each performance and emphasized that these gatherings go beyond the musical sphere, becoming spaces for coexistence, exchange, and learning. Thanks to these initiatives, bands share experiences, strengthen their bonds, and transmit musical culture to new generations.
Furthermore, the cultural and tourist impact of this initiative was highlighted, as the host municipalities are transformed into venues for a top-level cultural offering for both residents and visitors. The collaboration of the Federation of Musical Societies of the Valencian Community, responsible for coordination, was acknowledged, as was the work of all participating bands for their contribution to social cohesion and the maintenance of one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the province.
During the event in Sot de Ferrer, the Unión Musical de Sot de Ferrer was especially congratulated on its 130th anniversary, serving as an example of music's role as a driver of culture and coexistence.
The program of Band Gatherings will continue on June 13 in Cabanes with the Plana Alta meeting. After the summer break, Figueroles will host the Alcalatén-Alt Millars event on September 12; on September 26, La Jana will host the Baix Maestrat meeting; and the cycle will conclude on October 4 in Catí with the Els Ports-Alt Maestrat regional gathering.
