The Castellón Provincial Council has allocated an investment exceeding 1.18 million euros to the municipality of Montanejos to promote its development. The president of the provincial institution, Marta Barrachina, visited the municipality to review the completion of a project awarded in the Ceramic Urban Regeneration Competition (CRU), which involved an investment of 253,125 euros to transform the Era de la Alquería using ceramic materials.
During her visit, Marta Barrachina highlighted the investment effort made since the beginning of the legislature. The municipality has allocated funds from the Impulsa Plan to repair the irrigation ditch network, improve access to the Fuente de los Baños, and renovate its changing rooms. “Investments made with the aim of continuing to improve infrastructure, services, and all of this to enhance the quality of life for its residents,” stated the provincial leader.
Furthermore, the inclusion of a 2027 provincial budget agreement has been announced, endowed with 160,000 euros for the construction of a new parking lot with 60 spaces. “Montanejos receives thousands of visitors each year who enjoy its unique natural environment, and with this agreement, we will address a real need and strengthen this municipality's capacity to continue growing as a reference destination,” expressed Marta Barrachina.
The completed work, awarded in the CRU Competition, has transformed the space into a cultural and social hub. “The work carried out in Montanejos shows how each edition of the CRU not only fosters the talent of architects but also contributes to the economic and cultural development of small towns, reinforcing Castellón's identity as an epicenter of ceramics,” emphasized the provincial leader.
The project, titled ‘The Urbanism of Events’ by La Errería, has created a healthy and versatile environment where cultural activities and children's games coexist, integrating with the essence of the Alto Mijares region. This intervention has converted a degraded area into a tourist attraction and a true home for its residents.
Ceramics is the central material of the project, used both in the flooring and in the urban furniture, such as benches and planters, integrating perfectly with the architectural heritage of La Alquería. The president of the Provincial Council highlighted the role of the ceramic sector as a productive and social engine in the province of Castellón.
The CRU competition has become synonymous with ceramics, a tourist attraction, and an opportunity to enhance the territory. Investing in ceramics through initiatives like this contest means investing in the development of our region and creating opportunities for small towns.
The work in Montanejos is part of the 14 actions already completed, plus three currently underway, since the CRU competition began. Thanks to this contest, numerous municipalities in the province of Castellón have remodeled their streets and squares with quality architecture, using ceramics as the main element.
