The town of Benafigos, in inland Castellón, has lost its most basic services, the bar and the shop, and the Town Council is looking for someone to manage them to revitalize the village.

The loss of the bar and the shop in a small village like Benafigos, with around 140 inhabitants, represents a significant blow to daily life and community. After the private restaurant Ca Felipo closed a few months ago, the small municipal shop also ceased operations, forcing residents to travel 10 kilometers to Atzeneta for basic necessities.

"There is nothing. We are barely coping, as best we can."

the mayor
Given this situation, the Town Council has decided to act to reopen the Les Eres bar, a municipal establishment that closed about a decade ago. The proposal includes the direct lease of this hospitality venue, completely renovated in 2024 and located in the town center, for a monthly rent of 97.97 euros.
In addition, the possibility of residing in a municipal apartment for a symbolic price is offered, with the aim not only of reopening the bar but also of attracting families and combating depopulation. The contract will be for two renewable years. The mayor hopes that the establishment can open as soon as possible, especially before the Aplec de Penyagolosa, which will be held from June 26 to 28 and will attract a significant influx of visitors.
The Town Council's ideal aspiration is for the future Les Eres bar to also take on the role of a shop, thus bringing together the two lost services in one space. Therefore, interested parties will be offered the possibility of combining both activities in a single business. The premises are in good condition, but the successful bidder will have to provide refrigerators, check the extractor, and fix the oven door. Equipment repairs are the responsibility of the tenant, but the Town Council is open to agreements to deduct them from the rent, while building repairs are assumed by the council.
