The press conference to present Cinema Jove coincided with several notable news items affecting the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC). Beyond questions about the festival itself, two strong statements from the audiovisual sector and a protest by performing arts groups at the Mostra de Teatre d’Alcoi emerged. The Director General of the IVC, Álvaro López-Jamar, and the new Director General of Culture, Ignacio Prieto, presented the institution's perspective.
The audiovisual sector's statements, critical of the five million direct subsidy to Disney for filming at Ciudad de la Luz, also targeted the Consell's cultural policy, describing the IVC as burdened by "enormous management problems" and "minimal" filming aid. López-Jamar believes the controversy is "not our responsibility" but highlighted the "constant work" with Ciudad de la Luz, stating, "we believe things are being done well".
Ignacio Prieto supported the aid to Disney, asserting that "they cannot be seen as incompatible issues" and that "strategy design goes beyond the local scope." He added that "this type of project will allow Valencian companies to develop professionally".
Furthermore, about a dozen performing arts associations renamed the IVC "Institut Violent amb la Cultura" (Violent Institute with Culture) at the Mostra de Teatre d’Alcoi. López-Jamar described this action as a "disqualifying hyperbole," insisting, "we have never acted with violence; we have worked for everyone," while acknowledging that the institution has "virtues" and "flaws".
Regarding statements by Blanca Añón about the absence of Valencian IVC productions among the Premios Max nominees, both López-Jamar and Prieto expressed pride in the Valencian successes and highlighted their presence at the awards ceremony. Prieto concluded that "the objective must remain to continue working" to achieve "the best possible successes".
