The City Council of Alcoy saw its 2026 budget approved this Thursday, after a one-month period expired without the opposition articulating a no-confidence motion.

The ratification of the accounts, totaling 76.9 million euros, follows the local government—formed by PSPV-PSOE and Compromís—losing a vote of confidence on April 14. At that time, the bloc formed by the Popular Party, Vox, and Guanyar Alcoi voted against the budget proposal.
The political deadlock arose from disagreements over the Alcoy Sur business park project. Although the budget did not include specific items for this development, Guanyar Alcoi conditioned its support on the withdrawal of a protocol signed with the Generalitat and the Chamber of Commerce.

"The opposition has not been able to present a government alternative."

Following the confirmation of the approval, the mayor stated that the local government will continue working to address the city's challenges. Meanwhile, the Popular Party criticized the current government's continuity, arguing that a resignation should have occurred after losing the plenary's confidence.
