The town of L'Alcora has consolidated an animal protection model that includes 24-hour care, zero sacrifice, and the promotion of responsible adoption, becoming a benchmark in the Valencian Community.

From the Animal Welfare area, the L'Alcora City Council works jointly with the animal shelters Huellas Callejeras and ADAA. This collaboration has allowed nearly 500 animals to be attended to since Huellas Callejeras took over the service in May 2021, with constant rescues in the urban area, industrial zones, and the surroundings of the town.
The promotion of responsible adoptions continues to grow, exceeding fifty formalized between 2025 and early 2026. This evolution reflects the sensitivity of the citizenry and the effectiveness of the dissemination and reception protocols implemented by the council.

"Our goal is that every step we take responds to the affection and responsibility that residents feel towards animals; we want a management with soul, that lives up to this growing social sensitivity."

L'Alcora was the first municipality in the province and one of the first in the Valencian Community to award this service to a shelter. This was possible thanks to the preparation of pioneering specifications that guarantee a management model based on sensitivity, professionalism, and absolute respect for animal life.
The new service contract, formalized at the end of 2025 and again assumed by Huellas Callejeras, covers the entire process, from the collection of abandoned animals to their responsible adoption. The system offers 24-hour care, 365 days a year, with response times of less than 90 minutes.
Additionally, it incorporates technical protocols such as individual traceability of each animal through an electronic file, which allows for complete monitoring and permanent control by the City Council. The model also includes the dissemination of animals within a maximum of 48 hours, immediate veterinary care, and the use of foster homes for better adaptation before final adoption. All of this is carried out under the principle of zero sacrifice and with a strong commitment to citizen awareness.
