Under the slogan “For the climate, now” for World Environment Day, Veolia reaffirms its commitment to mitigation and adaptation strategies for climate change. The company, a global leader in ecological transformation, operates in water, energy, and waste sectors to decarbonize, decontaminate, and regenerate natural resources.
In the Valencian Community, Veolia and its joint ventures manage the integral water cycle in nearly a hundred municipalities. Their projects focus on sustainability, digitalization, and climate change adaptation, ensuring the availability and quality of essential resources like water, implementing circular economy principles, and reducing pollution.
Veolia's response capacity was tested during the October 2024 DANA (cold drop), where 40% of affected municipalities in the province of Valencia managed by the company restored services thanks to their investment in digitalization from the Hubgrade by Veolia centers.
In tourist municipalities facing significant water stress, such as Benidorm, an average water efficiency of 95% has been achieved. The use of regenerated water has exceeded 43 hm³ annually, with projects for irrigating parks and gardens, industrial uses, and reducing wildfire risk, such as the Guardian system in the Turia Natural Park.
Projects like IRIS, focused on the digitalization of Nature-Based Solutions, and Biovera, promoting green infrastructure, are also part of the initiatives by Aguas de Alicante and Aigües d’Elx. Furthermore, Veolia and its participating companies have secured over 16 million euros from the PERTE initiative for the digitalization of the water cycle.
