This month-on-month reduction is complemented by a fall of 16,581 people compared to April of last year, representing a 5.48% decrease. However, this figure is below the national average, where unemployment fell by 6.20%. The Valencian Community was the fifth region with the largest absolute drop in unemployment during the month.
The positive trend was reflected in the three Valencian provinces. Alicante led the decrease with 1,336 fewer unemployed, a 1.14% drop. It was followed by Valencia, with 918 fewer unemployed and a 0.66% reduction, while Castellón registered 158 fewer unemployed, 0.50% below the March figure.
In year-on-year terms, unemployment also decreased in all three provinces: Valencia recorded 8,056 fewer unemployed than a year ago, Alicante 6,965 fewer, and Castellón 1,560 fewer. Of the total of 285,750 people registered as unemployed, 175,791 are women and 109,959 are men.
By sectors, the largest decrease in unemployment was concentrated in services, with 2,287 fewer unemployed. Falls were also recorded in industry (353 fewer), agriculture (107 fewer), and construction (82 fewer). The group of people without previous employment increased by 417. The services sector continues to concentrate the largest volume of unemployed with 202,012 people.
In contrast to the overall drop in unemployment, the foreign population experienced a slight increase of 54 people in April, 0.10% more than in March, reaching 54,983 unemployed. However, compared to the previous year, unemployment among foreigners has decreased by 1,072 people, a 1.91% reduction.
Hiring showed a monthly decline, with 6,176 fewer contracts than in March, representing a 5.21% decrease. Permanent contracts decreased by 5.95%, while temporary contracts increased by 8.12%. Despite this, the Social Security system added 21,832 contributors in April, 0.97% more than in March, reaching 2,263,853 affiliates.
