Two slightly injured in Villajoyosa tortilla contest after stove gas canister explodes

A 77-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman suffer minor burns in a tortilla contest organized by the Ermita festival committee.

A 77-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman have suffered minor burns in a tortilla contest in Villajoyosa (Alicante) after a participant's stove gas canister exploded.

The incident occurred around 1:55 PM in the area of the Villajoyosa hermitage when the gas canister exploded, causing burns to the man's face and arm, and the woman's hands. Both injured individuals were taken to the Marina Baixa regional hospital.
According to the town hall, the tortilla contest is organized by the Ermita festival committee to celebrate the San Isidro festivities. The stove belonged to one of the participants.
Immediately, the security and emergency services, including health personnel and Local Police present in the area, were activated to attend to the two injured individuals, who are not believed to be seriously hurt.
