The second PCR test performed on the 32-year-old woman admitted to Sant Joan Hospital in Alicante for suspected hantavirus has again tested negative, confirming she has not contracted the disease.

The results from the National Center for Microbiology analyses have ratified the conclusions of the first test. Following a change in decision by the Ministry of Health, the woman will undergo quarantine at the same hospital where she is admitted. This modification to the protocol has been communicated to the Generalitat, which is preparing to care for the patient during the isolation period.
Following the established protocol, a third PCR test will be performed within the next 48 hours. Until then, the woman will remain in isolation in a negative pressure room within the hospital. Once the results of this third analysis are known, the Ministry and the Department of Health will conduct a joint assessment of the situation.
The Department of Health sent the second sample to the Madrid center early on Sunday morning, and the results arrived in less than 24 hours, a much shorter period than the maximum of 48 hours stipulated by the Ministry. The patient was admitted to Sant Joan Hospital on Friday, transferred from her home by ambulance with all security measures in place, including a negative pressure capsule.
The admitted woman is a passenger who was on the same plane as the person who died in Johannesburg after contracting the virus on the cruise ship MV Hondius. The only symptom compatible with the disease she presented was a cough and mild respiratory insufficiency. Since admission, her condition has remained stable, and no new symptoms have developed.
