The film, which explores themes such as abandonment and memory, was honored with the festival's top award, a 3,000 euro prize. Directors Iván Sánchez and David Tembleque accepted the award during the closing ceremony.
'Que vienen los perros' is the debut feature from Sánchez and Tembleque, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Leila Baida and Olivia Baglivi. The cast includes Olivia Baglivi, Mabel del Pozo, Ramón Esquinas, Carmen Mayordomo, and Catalina Sopelana. The production is by Clapham Films, RV Entertainment, and 925 Producciones, with cinematography by Iván Sánchez Alonso and music by Claudio Bonaldi.
The feature film also secured the Silver Tessera for best director for Iván Sánchez and David Tembleque, the Silver Tessera for best actress for Olivia Baglivi, and the Silver Tessera for best cinematography for Iván Sánchez. Actor Joaquín López-Bailo received a special mention for his performance.
In other feature film categories, the Silver Tessera for best screenplay went to 'Un hombre de verdad' by Liteo Pedregal; actor José Luís García–Pérez won the Silver Tessera for best actor for his work in 'Rabioso'; and 'A la cara' by Javier Marco took home the critics' award, accepted by its co-writer Belén Sánchez Arévalo.
The ceremony also paid tribute to composer Roque Baños with the Music for the Image award, and to costume designer Cristina Rodríguez with the Fashion Cinema award.
In the short film section, '21 de Octubre' by J. Cánovas won the award for best national fiction short film, with a prize of 1,000 euros and eligibility for the 2027 Goya Awards. Carlos Santos was awarded best actor for 'Montecarlo', Ariadna Llobet best actress for '13 Gatos', and Alba Just best director for 'Lleó', a short film that also received the Aguas de Alicante award for best environmental-themed short.
The best international fiction short film was 'Samba Infinito' by Leonardo Martinelli (Brazil), and the best Casa Mediterráneo short film was 'L’Alone' by Jean Piero-Gian Piero Rotoli. 'Pinchu es así' by Carmen Córdoba received the award for best national animated short film, also qualifying for the 2027 Goya Awards.
The best documentary short film was 'Enguídanos, l’escriptor que viatjà a les estrelles' by Joana Chilet, with access to the 2027 Goya Awards. The award for best LGTBI short film went to 'Café con corazón' by Ángel Puado and Sebastián Haro. Finally, the audience award for best short film in the Alicante Cinema section was presented to 'Tiempo al tiempo' by Andrés López.
The director of the Alicante International Film Festival, Vicente Seva, highlighted that the event now marks eight editions as a meeting point for the industry, particularly for the co-production forum that this year has connected the Region of Murcia with the Valencian Community.
