The Federació de les Fogueres de Sant Joan in Alicante is launching electronic voting this year to select the 'indultados' ninots, a change aimed at modernizing the festival and facilitating citizen participation.

The Ninot Exhibition begins this afternoon with the reception of figures eligible for pardon, incorporating an electronic voting system for the first time. This initiative, driven by the Digital Transformation delegation, aims to "bring the festival into the 21st century," according to Federation president David Olivares.
The new system will allow voting via a QR code on tickets, leading to a virtual ballot where participants can select their preferred foguera or barraca. Only one vote per ticket will be permitted. This change complements the work done in 2024 with the app that improved accessibility for visually impaired individuals.
To ensure accessibility for all, two voting machines will be installed for those without a camera-equipped mobile phone. Olivares highlighted that this new system will make the process "even simpler and the count much more agile on the closing day".
Beyond the Ninot Exhibition, pre-Fogueres events continue this weekend with the Fogueres Culturals program. This Saturday kicks off with a concert by the Colla Federal at Las Cigarreras and the XIX Andrés Llorens Band Festival at La Florida. The program runs until June 23rd with events focused on music, folklore, and traditions.
Fogueres Culturals involves the City Council of Alicante, the Provincial Council of Alicante, the Federació de Fogueres de Sant Joan, and the Federació de Folklore d'Alacant. The Councilor for Culture, Nayma Beldjilali, encouraged attendance at the events to "enjoy the festive atmosphere and better understand our traditions and roots".
Saturday's concert will feature works dedicated to the Hogueras de Sant Joan, composed by artists from the Federació de Folklore d'Alacant, and will include collaboration from a brass wind group from the 'La Amistad' Musical Society of Villafranqueza. The premiere of the work 'Pregó de Fogueres' by Víctor Pérez San Roque is scheduled.
The Andrés Llorens Band Festival will feature the participation of the Unión Musical Ciudad de Asís and the Agrupación Musical SDC Carolinas. Within Fogueres Culturals, an exhibition on the presence of Don Quixote in the Hogueras will open on June 2nd at the Municipal Archive.
On Sunday, June 7th, the Mostra de Folklore will hold its fourth edition on Avenida de la Constitución, with participation from dance groups, traditional music ensembles, muixeranga, giants and dwarfs, and craft workshops.
Finally, on Tuesday, June 16th, the XXIX Hogueras Music Concert will take place at the ADDA, performed by the Municipal Symphonic Band of Alicante. On June 23rd, during the Fogueres, the traditional 'dansà' will be held in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
