The Secretary General of the PSPV-PSOE and Minister of Science and Universities, Diana Morant, has lashed out at the Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, over the controversy surrounding the allocation of luxury homes in Les Naus. Morant stated that "Alicante residents will not forget the Les Naus scandal, the distribution of 140 luxury homes among a select few."
During a visit to the Hogueras festival in Alicante, Morant maintained that the national leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has once again backed Barcala despite the controversy. "Mr. Feijóo has once again blessed Barcala, a mayor who should have resigned and returned the homes," she affirmed.
The socialist leader also accused the City Council of Alicante, the Generalitat, and the Popular Party of failing to launch any investigation into the events or promote regulatory changes to prevent similar situations from recurring.
"Neither Mr. Barcala, nor Pérez Llorca, nor the Consell of the Popular Party have wanted to investigate what happened nor, of course, change the rules so that this does not happen again," said Morant. The minister hinted that regulatory changes made previously might have favored the outcome of the allocation, adding: "Surely because they changed the rules precisely so that it would happen, precisely to be able to distribute the apartments."
The statements by the PSPV leader come amid political controversy over the allocation of the Les Naus homes, an issue that has intensified the confrontation between socialists and popular party members in the city of Alicante and continues to be a focus of regional political debate.
