Major unions have called for demonstrations in several cities across the Valencian Community this May Day, focusing their demands on improving wages and access to decent housing.

Under the slogan «Rights, not trenches. Wages, housing, and democracy», the mobilizations have taken place in locations such as València, Castelló, Alicante, Elx, and Alcoi. These actions aim to highlight the importance of protecting achieved labor and social rights, especially in a context of increasing corporate profits and escalating rental and housing purchase prices.

"We have more than enough reasons to fill the streets this May Day."

The day has also been marked by the situation in the Health and Education sectors, with the threat of an indefinite strike in education starting on May 11 and protests by medical staff over their working conditions. Unions have urged the Generalitat to get involved in resolving these issues, demanding more resources to guarantee quality public services and fair access to housing.

"It cannot be that the Generalitat is lowering taxes for the rich and then says it cannot pay teachers more."

Among the main demands are a salary increase of between 4% and 7% for the years 2026, 2027, and 2028, the construction of two million affordable homes, and the regulation of rent in stressed areas. Emphasis has also been placed on defending democracy against the advance of the far-right and the need for new rights to control the introduction of artificial intelligence in companies.
