Representatives from the main legal associations met at the headquarters of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers to press for and unblock the situation of mutualists. This meeting, marked by unity, seeks an immediate response after more than three years of demands for dignified pensions.
The gathering served to demonstrate a common front between institutional legal bodies and affected groups. A spokesperson for the General Council conveyed the institution's commitment to support the collective's demands and collaborate with all involved parties to accelerate a solution.
The meeting featured a prominent presence from Alicante, as the dean of the Illustrious Bar Association of Alicante was present in his capacity as president of the Social Welfare Commission of the General Council. The meeting showed a change in tone within the sector, moving from prolonged claims to demanding an urgent solution.
Associations such as Altodo, Anama, Defenda, Movimiento J2, or Mutualistas por el Futuro, among others, attended the meeting. These entities have been denouncing for years the situation of thousands of lawyers who, after contributing to alternative mutual societies, cannot access a pension comparable to that of the public system.
During the meeting, the groups insisted on the urgent need to approve an amendment to the General Social Security Law to correct this situation. The proposal, currently undergoing parliamentary processing, depends on the Congress's Labor Commission, where immediate progress is expected.
Attendees agreed that the problem has ceased to be a sectoral issue and has become a structural anomaly affecting professional dignity at retirement. In this regard, they demanded that the future regulation guarantee real “economic sufficiency” for mutualists, in line with the Constitution.
As a result, the associations agreed to continue working together in future meetings with the aim of improving the legislative proposal and ensuring it addresses all affected professionals, without exception.
