Unemployment in Valencian Community drops by 1,654 people in May

The total number of unemployed people stands at 284,096, with year-on-year decreases in all three provinces.

Registered unemployment in the Valencian Community fell in May by 1,654 people compared to the previous month, a decrease of 0.58%, bringing the total number of unemployed to 284,096. This drop occurs in a month where unemployment has decreased in all autonomous communities.

Compared to May 2025, the Community has 13,354 fewer unemployed people, representing a year-on-year decrease of 4.49%. In absolute terms, the region was the seventh where unemployment fell the most, behind regions like Andalusia, Catalonia, and the Community of Madrid.
The monthly decrease was not uniform across provinces. Alicante saw the largest drop, with 1,237 fewer unemployed people, a 1.07% decrease from April. Unemployment also fell in Valencia, with 698 fewer unemployed, a 0.50% decrease. In contrast, Castellón registered an increase of 281 people, a monthly rise of 0.90%.
The year-on-year trend shows a reduction in unemployment in all three Valencian provinces. In Valencia, unemployment has fallen by 6,333 people, 4.39% less than a year ago. In Alicante, the decrease was 5,952 people, equivalent to 4.94%. In Castellón, the annual decrease stands at 1,069 people, 3.28% less.
Of the total 284,096 unemployed people in the Valencian Community, 174,893 are women and 109,203 are men. Additionally, there are 17,354 individuals under 25 years old registered with employment offices, of whom 9,289 are men and 8,065 are women.
By sectors, the largest monthly decrease was recorded in services, with 1,933 fewer unemployed. Unemployment also fell in industry, by 240; in construction, by 220; and in agriculture, by 39. Conversely, the 'no previous employment' group increased by 778 people.
With these figures, the services sector continues to concentrate the largest portion of unemployment, with 200,079 people out of work. This is followed by industry, with 32,861; the 'no previous employment' group, with 24,608; construction, with 19,678; and agriculture, with 6,870.
Hiring also grew in May. The Valencian Community registered 116,712 contracts, which is 4,263 more than in April, an increase of 3.79%. However, compared to May 2025, 2,958 fewer contracts were signed, a year-on-year decrease of 2.47%.
By province, Alicante added 2,739 more contracts, an increase of 7.09%. In Valencia, the increase was 1,786 contracts, 2.91% more. Conversely, Castellón registered 262 fewer contracts, a decrease of 2.10%.
Permanent contracts grew by 5.69% compared to April, with 3,327 more, reaching 61,799. Temporary contracts also increased, albeit less intensely, with 936 more, a 1.73% rise, reaching 54,913.
Social Security affiliation closed May with 2,294,110 affiliated people in the Valencian Community. This is 14,005 more than in April, an increase of 0.61%. Year-on-year, affiliation has increased by 81,339 people, or 2.32%.
By province, Alicante recorded the largest monthly advance, with 8,597 more affiliates, reaching 794,735. In Valencia, affiliation rose by 5,332 people, to 1,233,317. In Castellón, the increase was more modest, with 77 more affiliates, reaching 266,057.
