Denuncias for gender violence in Alicante increase by 19% in the first quarter

The province registers 2,892 complaints, 14% more victims, exceeding the national average.

Alicante courts received 2,892 complaints of gender violence during the first quarter of the year, a 19% increase compared to the previous year.

The courts of Alicante received 2,892 complaints of gender violence during the first quarter of the year, compared to the 2,431 recorded in the same period of the previous year. The increase reaches 19% and makes the province one of those contributing most to the rise registered in the entire Valencian Community.
The number of female victims has also risen in Alicante, from 2,346 to 2,674 between January and March. This represents a 14% growth and places the province as the second with the most victims in the region, only behind Valencia, which registers 2,802.
In the regional total, judicial bodies received 7,080 complaints of gender violence in the first quarter, 5.8% more than a year earlier. The total number of victims stood at 6,327 women, with a year-on-year increase of 1.7%.
The rate of female victims of gender violence in Alicante reaches 26 per 10,000 women, clearly above the national average of 18.1. The province is only surpassed by Castellón within the Valencian Community, where the rate reaches 27, and is above Valencia, with 19.9.
93.6% of individuals prosecuted in the Courts for Violence against Women in the province of Alicante ended in conviction. In Valencia, the percentage was 93.9%, while in Castellón it reached 99.3%.
At the regional level, the number of individuals prosecuted for gender violence crimes has decreased by 3.38%, from 2,274 to 2,177. The sentences issued by all judicial bodies have also fallen by 5.4%, from 2,271 to 2,148.
Protection orders adopted in the Valencian Community have decreased by 2.4%, to 936. Applications have also slightly decreased, from 1,205 to 1,188, while denied orders have increased by 5.5%.
Of the 6,327 victims registered in the Valencian Community, 3,492 were Spanish and 2,835 were foreign. Furthermore, 921 women have availed themselves of the exemption from the duty to testify against their aggressor, an increase of 14.6% compared to the previous year.
