The president of the Alicante Provincial Council has called for the necessary investments to consolidate the province's tourism growth, prioritizing the rail connection to Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport.

The institutional representative participated this Wednesday in the General Assembly of Hosbec, an event where Aena's investments in the airports of the Valencian Community were also presented. During his speech, he announced that the sector's forecasts for the summer season "are breaking records both in the arrival of passengers at the Alicante terminal and in overnight stays and bookings".
He highlighted that the Alicante airport is the main gateway for international and national tourism, as well as an exit route for Alicante residents themselves. Therefore, he argued that the sector's growth must be accompanied by adequate infrastructure.

"We have a great tourist brand on the Costa Blanca, but above all a province that is growing and developing well. We have the fifth airport in Spain in terms of passenger numbers for the fourth province in Spain by population."

The provincial president warned, however, that there are factors that need to be corrected and expressed confidence in doing so "with the help of the business sector." In this regard, he pointed out that the main problem of the Alicante terminal is the lack of alternative connections.

"The problem of the Alicante terminal, which already handles 20 million passengers, remains that we talk about environmental sustainability and condemn tourists to leave by a single road to connect with all our major tourist destinations."

He also linked investment planning to the need for general state budgets. He considered that if the investments an airport needs are well planned, this is good news. However, he insisted that the province needs to take another step in terms of mobility.
Finally, the provincial president reaffirmed the importance of tourism in the province, emphasizing that "we are a land where people want to come to live or enjoy" and that their arrival and capacity for transit and mobility must be facilitated.
