Alicante bids farewell today to the 2026 Fogueres with the traditional Cremà, a fire ritual that will reduce 184 monuments to ashes and will feature a large security operation.

The city of Alicante is experiencing the main day of the 2026 Fogueres today, the festivals in honor of Saint John. The Cremà night will mark the end of nearly a week of celebrations, reducing to ashes the 92 bonfires erected in various neighborhoods, in addition to the two official ones. The event can be followed live on À Punt's television and website starting at 9:45 PM, with coverage also in other towns such as Sant Joan d’Alacant, Xàbia, Benidorm, Guardamar del Segura, and Torrevieja.
The Cremà of the 184 monuments, both large and children's, will begin at midnight on June 24th to 25th, following the traditional palm rocket fired at 00:00 AM from the summit of Benacatil. This year, the Hermanos Ferrández pyrotechnics company has prepared a show with nearly a thousand rockets and a palm rocket spanning 300 meters in diameter.
The ritual of flames will extend well into the early morning. Starting at 00:01 AM, the official bonfire of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento of Alicante and various monuments of all categories will burn. At 1:00 AM, it will be the turn of Florida-Portatge, the winner of the Special Category this 2026. Until past 3:00 AM, firefighters and police will supervise the cremà of all the bonfires.
A large security operation, comprising 180 municipal firefighters and 321 officers from the Local Police, accompanied by civil protection members, will ensure the night passes without incident. According to the Alicante Security Councilor, Julio Calero, as explained to À Punt, the teams will be activated from nine in the evening to manage traffic and access.
For the lighting of the monuments, police and firefighters will establish safety perimeters. After the fire, the traditional Banyà will take place, where anti-fire units will direct hoses towards the public to alleviate the heat.
This Wednesday is the last opportunity to visit the monuments, with band music and a festive atmosphere despite the high temperatures. The City Council has provided a free bus with a circuit covering the Special Category bonfires, operating from 8:00 AM to 10:30 PM with a fifteen-minute frequency. The Generalitat's TRAM will offer uninterrupted service until the early morning of June 25th to 26th.
