The Civil Guard is investigating a 41-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of 24 intentional forest fires in the Serra Grossa-San Julián area of Alicante, near inhabited zones.

Agents from the Nature Protection Service of the Alicante Civil Guard, as part of operation “JURAMENTO”, with the collaboration of environmental agents from the Generalitat Valenciana, carried out this operation. The proceedings have been sent to the Environmental Prosecutor's Office.
The investigation began in early May 2025, after several forest fires were detected on the northeast slope of the Serra Grossa. The proximity of the flames to homes caused alarm among residents. Initial inquiries pointed to the intentional setting of the fires, using direct flame and accelerant material, which increased the risk of spread.
Between May and August 2025, 13 fires were recorded. After a period of inactivity, new outbreaks with the same characteristics reappeared in early 2026. The analysis of the information allowed for the identification of a common pattern and, finally, the alleged perpetrator, to whom 24 crimes against public safety are attributed.
The identification occurred thanks to the collaboration between the Civil Guard and the National Police of Alicante. The alleged perpetrator was already detained for other reasons when the investigation leaders were notified. The case focuses on a sensitive area due to its proximity to homes and the recurrence of fires.
