The intervention, which will affect nearly 25,000 square meters, aims to transform one of the main urban access points to the stadium and to areas of residential and industrial growth in the city. The municipal government spokesperson, Inma Mora, highlighted that this is a strategic action to improve mobility and modernize the area.
The contract has been provisionally pre-awarded to the company Pavasal Empresa Constructora S.A.U. The project includes the renovation of 400 meters of Manuel Martínez Valero avenue and 500 meters of José Esquitino Sempere avenue. Both roads will feature 26-meter-wide sections, four traffic lanes, central medians, new tree-lined areas, and wider sidewalks to promote pedestrian traffic and shade.
Two new roundabouts will also be constructed at the intersection of both avenues and at the boundary between sectors AR-78 and E-24, along with new on-street parking areas and improvements to public lighting. The works include demolition, earthmoving, paving, and renovation of potable water and drainage networks, as well as landscaping, irrigation, signage, and urban furniture.
The funding will be shared among various stakeholders involved in the area's urban development. The City Council will contribute 1.7 million euros, while the remainder will come from sector E-24, the company Astonquer, and Elche CF.
In other news, the Local Government Board also approved the extension of summer hours for hospitality and leisure establishments between May 29 and November 1. Pubs, karaoke bars, and concert cafés will be allowed to open until 04:30 AM, while restaurants, cafeterias, and bars can stay open until 02:30 AM. Terraces will maintain these extended hours as well. Additionally, common operating hours have been set for festive activities in the districts during their popular festivals in 2026.
Finally, several agreements have been approved with cultural and social entities, including the Patronat del Misteri d’Elx, the Associació de Belenistes, the Comunitat Andaluza d'Elx, the Centre Aragonès, and the Associació Histórico Artística Pobladores Elche. Furthermore, the service for pruning palm trees in municipal orchards has been awarded for over 307,000 euros, affecting a minimum of 5,335 specimens.
