The Parque del Mar Neighborhood Association in Alicante has submitted a series of complaints to the Alicante City Council and the Ministry of Transport to report unsanitary conditions on ADIF land.

According to the entity, the area, located next to Parque del Mar and the headquarters of Casa Mediterráneo, is in a state of “sanitary emergency” due to the accumulation of trash, weeds, and the proliferation of pests, in addition to the presence of shantytowns.
The association states that it has been demanding action for years without success and has escalated requests for protection to the president of the Generalitat and the Minister of Transport to demand urgent intervention. The neighborhood entity maintains that the deterioration of the environment poses a risk to public health and the safety of residents and visitors.

"We have exhausted our patience and demand that the law also be applied to public administrations."

The AVV Parque del Mar points out that the land has become an “uncontrolled landfill” with waste and debris, as well as weeds that could favor fires and the appearance of rats, mosquitoes, and other parasites in nearby homes. The entity adds that the situation is particularly serious because it is an area close to Casa Mediterráneo and a common thoroughfare for thousands of people.
The association also directs its criticism at the Alicante City Council, considering that the council has legal tools to act subsidiarily and subsequently claim the cost from ADIF. In the entity's opinion, the council has maintained an attitude of “passivity” despite neighborhood complaints.
The association has requested the Generalitat that regional health authorities intervene ex officio in what they consider an “evident infectious focus.” Similarly, it urges the Ministry of Transport to order ADIF to immediately fence, clean, and deratize the plot.
The entity warns that if they do not receive an “immediate” response and a concrete action plan, they will consider legal action through administrative litigation and continue with neighborhood mobilizations.
