The Alicante International Film Festival includes Pedro Almodóvar's film Matador, in a remastered 4K version, in its program to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

This classic of Spanish cinema, released in 1986, will be screened in a renewed version thanks to the remastering carried out by FlixOlé and Video Mercury. The screening will take place on Sunday, May 24 at 5:30 PM at the Teatre Arniches.
The film, starring Nacho Martínez, Assumpta Serna, Antonio Banderas, and Eva Cobo, with the participation of Julieta Serrano, Carmen Maura, and Eusebio Poncela, marked a turning point in the career of the director. The 4K restored copy was obtained from the original 35 mm negative, under the supervision of the director's brother and producer.

"Matador is someone who kills, and this circumstance includes both protagonists, Diego Montes and María Cardenal. For both, killing is the ultimate expression of physical love."

Pedro Almodóvar · Film Director
The festival re-releases Pedro Almodóvar's fifth feature film, a work that, although often overlooked, represented a shift in his career. Conceived as an erotic thriller, the film explores desire through various filmic, thematic, and aesthetic fetishes that influenced filmmakers worldwide, including Quentin Tarantino.
The screening of this remastered version is a tribute to the film's 40th anniversary and has been made possible by the restoration work of FlixOlé and Mercury Films. These initiatives are vital for preserving the legacy of Spanish cinema and allowing new generations to enjoy audiovisual heritage on the big screen with the highest quality.
