The Alicante Nursing College has highlighted today the work carried out by professionals serving in Advanced Life Support Nursing (SVAE) units throughout the Valencian Community.

The professional entity aims to convey to society that these units are fully qualified to handle the emergencies and operations for which they were designed. Currently, there are three such units in the Valencian territory, which play a key role in responding to emergencies and disasters, as well as in triage and secondary transfers between hospitals.
One of the most relevant aspects of this resource is that they act as reference units for neonatal transport in the Valencian Community. Regarding staffing, the SVAE consists of one nurse and two Emergency Medical Technicians, possessing the same material equipment as SAMU units.
The professional college clarified that these units were not introduced to replace physician-led resources, but to strengthen the healthcare system. Furthermore, they noted that the CICU physician can access the patient's vital signs in real-time via the internet, ensuring constant supervision.
This model, which has been operating in Spain since 1989, is present in thirteen of the seventeen autonomous communities and follows a format similar to that used in neighboring countries like France and the Netherlands. The service is regulated by Royal Decree 836/2012, which establishes the conditions for medical transport and personnel composition.
