Officers of the National Police have arrested a 43-year-old man in Alicante as the alleged perpetrator of theft and home invasion. He is accused of stealing various items from a room in the pediatric ward of a city hospital.
The events unfolded when a nurse at the center alerted the police after catching the man leaving one of the pediatric rooms with a video game console and an e-reader in his hands.
“"The healthcare worker noticed suspicious behavior and called the attention of the individual who, at that moment, was wearing hospital pajama pants. Upon being discovered, the suspect abandoned the objects and tried to move away."
The nurse immediately contacted the Cimacc 091 control room and also notified the mother of the minor occupying the room, who was at that moment with her child in the playroom. Upon checking her belongings, the woman confirmed that her wallet, containing personal documentation and bank cards, was missing.
Plainclothes officers from the Alicante-Norte Police Station's Operational Response Group quickly went to the hospital and began a search through the different floors. A few minutes later, they located a man matching the description provided by the nurse. During the search, police found the stolen wallet from the pediatric room among his clothes.
According to the police report, the nurse explained to the officers that this man had previously been involved in similar incidents within the center, which raised suspicions about a possible repeated pattern of behavior. Finally, the suspect was arrested and taken to police facilities. After the corresponding proceedings, he was placed at the disposal of the duty investigating court in Alicante.
