A 49-year-old man, subject to an International Arrest Warrant for Extradition (OIDE) from Ukraine, has been arrested in the city of Alicante by the National Police.

The investigation began following an international search warrant issued by Ukrainian authorities, who suspected the fugitive was in the province of Alicante. The information, channeled through Interpol, enabled the necessary steps to be taken to locate the wanted individual.
After several inquiries, officers established a police operation that culminated in the man's location and arrest in Alicante. According to the international warrant, the detainee had fled Ukrainian justice after being sentenced to a maximum of 12 years in prison.
The alleged offenses date back to the period between 2021 and 2023. Ukrainian authorities attribute to him the organization, along with others and through alleged prior planning, of an assault that caused serious injuries to a lawyer associated with an agricultural company. Furthermore, he is also accused of ordering a similar assault for intimidation purposes against one of the co-founders of that same company.
The operation was made possible through information exchange between different police forces and international coordination developed during the investigation. Once arrested, the man has been placed at the disposal of the Central Investigating Court of the Audiencia Nacional, which will handle the procedure for his possible extradition to Ukraine.
