More than 200 students from IES Radio Exterior in Alicante have participated in a disability awareness workshop, organized by COCEMFE Alicante, to promote inclusion and empathy.

The entity COCEMFE Alicante has driven an educational experience at IES Radio Exterior with the aim of transforming the perception of disability among young people. Over 210 students participated in this initiative, which focuses on education in values as a basis for building a more just, inclusive, and respectful society.
The activity, which took place on Tuesday morning, was facilitated by the Federation's technical team for inclusive education and accessibility. A participatory methodology based on experiential learning was used. Additionally, the workshop included the participation of Erasmus+ students from Belgium, Italy, Sweden, and Germany, adding an international dimension to the exchange of ideas on inclusion.
The workshop was structured into two blocks. In the first part, key concepts about disability were addressed from a rights-based approach, promoting an understanding based on the elimination of environmental barriers rather than individuals' limitations. This space generated an open dialogue where students reflected on how to advance towards a more inclusive province, fostering critical thinking and respect for diversity.

"Inclusion begins with perspective. When students understand that barriers are in the environment and not in people, a real change occurs in how they relate and coexist."

The second part of the workshop allowed these learnings to be applied experientially. Students participated in activities such as slalom in a sports wheelchair, handling a handbike, and boccia, directly experiencing situations related to mobility and adapted sports. This practical approach fosters the development of empathy and awareness of the importance of eliminating physical, social, and attitudinal barriers.
This initiative is part of COCEMFE Alicante's commitment to promoting inclusive education, understood as a process that guarantees the participation of all people on equal terms, recognizing diversity as a value. The entity thanks the entire educational community of IES Radio Exterior for their involvement, as well as the collaboration of teachers, students, and the Erasmus+ group. The project is funded by COCEMFE, the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, and the Department of Social Services, Family and Childhood.
